Testosterone is a naturally produced steroid hormone that pertains to the family of androgens, where it is primarily produced in combinational form with DHEA at low levels through NH position-5. Testosterone, an androgen produced throughout the body at varying levels depending both on sex of subject and local needs (e.g. DHEA or testosterone), is secreted in great amounts by male testes, which plays a key role but more complex than initially thought; indeed it helps to regulate gene transcription by binding intracellularly with the high-affinity AR (androgen receptor) ligand-binding domain , forming TX-RE ~ HSP while activating similar DNA-response elements (T-C-rich regions). This molecule plays a role in the synthesis of proteins, cellular differentiation and many metabolic pathways. It is synthesized from cholesterol by a series of enzymatic conversions, catalyzed first mainly through cytochromes P450 and then alcohol dehydrogenases. Testosterone has been well investigated in the research about endocrine signaling, receptor dynamics and steroid biosynthesis which are broadly studied.
